The Story

A study to understand the gaps in Insulin accessibility in India

The study examines insulin usage among diverse diabetes patients in India through ethnographic research, focusing on daily challenges, treatment adherence, and improving patient outcomes across various demographics.

What Did Octavus Do

The study highlights significant gaps in insulin accessibility, affordability, and patient education, especially in rural areas. Our client is assessing these insights to launch a new product with targeted patient support programs, addressing affordability, storage, and cultural barriers. This strategy can improve treatment adherence, expand market reach, and enhance patient satisfaction.

The Results

Octavus proposed these solutions based on the research conducted for Client.

Participant Observation (Ethnography): our team spent extended time with participants in their natural settings, such as their homes, workplaces, and community spaces, to observe how they integrate insulin therapy into their daily routines. This allowed for a deeper understanding of cultural, social, and environmental factors that affect their treatment adherence.
Face-to-Face In-Depth Interviews: Interviews were conducted with a sample of 50 diabetes patients across different regions of India. Participants were selected to represent a diverse demographic range, including various ages, genders, income levels, and rural-urban backgrounds.
In-depth, semi-structured interviews focused on personal stories, challenges with insulin administration, lifestyle adjustments, and emotional responses to living with diabetes.
Additional interviews with caregivers and healthcare providers were conducted to gain further insights into the patients' support systems and the effectiveness of communication between patients and medical professionals.
